Most of us hear daily complaints about others within our social circles. I commonly hear friends and family members complaining about other people not doing what they want them to do, or doing something they don’t like. I myself have engaged in this behavior but recently came across something written by Swami Prakashanand Saraswati that has inspired me to change this habit. Three of my daily goals are now toopenly assess my faults, work to improve myself, and stop criticizing others.

This quote by Prakashanand Saraswati has been especially poignant for me:
“Generally, everyone has some personality problem or some faults. Your mind can’t see your own faults. Your mind is prone to think that you are right, not wrong.
When you think of the faults of others, then you immediately think that you don’t have this kind of fault. ‘They are like that; I’m not like that.’ When you find fault in others, it means that you are showing your vanity.
Fault finding in others must be avoided. Look at your own faults and try to improve them.”
I am grateful to Swami Prakashanand Saraswati for providing me with the motivation to improve in this manner. Cheers to personal growth and self-improvement! To learn more about SPS you please see his books/writings at Amazon.
